IQL Mobile Orchard

One of our pioneering uses for the Rubblazzo product.

Rublazzo’s first outing was also the first collaboration between Diespeker and landscape garden designer Tom Massey. Tom was commissioned to work on a unique project at the International Quarter London (IQL) development. The goal was to create functional seating and planters for the IQL Orchard, to enhance a display of fruiting trees from around the world.

Sustainability was a key consideration for this project leading to the use of Rubblazzo as the main material for the seating and planters. The combination of London rubble in a cement-free binding hit the brief spot on.

“Rubblazzo was the perfect product to accompany the Mobile Orchard project”

Tom Massey

In a partnership first, construction company Lendlease provided the site and materials, Tom imparted the design skills and planting expertise, and Diespeker's skilled artisan team utilised well-proven terrazzo production methods to create the benches and planters from the new material Rubblazzo.

Although this was the inaugural use of Rubblazzo, the material’s durability and sustainability made it a great choice for the IQL Orchard project. At the same time, the Diespeker team gleaned useful pointers, enabling them to further refine and develop Rubblazzo.

The finished project was not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and educational for visitors to the IQL development.
